Accompanying the reprimand, the BJP issued a clarification stating that Kangana Ranaut’s remarks do not reflect the party’s views and that the BJP disagrees with them.

New Delhi: BJP leadership has reprimanded actor-politician Kangana Ranaut following her controversial remarks about the farmers’ protest. The party clarified that her comments do not reflect their stance.
The BJP’s response came a day after the 38-year-old BJP MP suggested that the farmers’ protest could have escalated into a Bangladesh-like crisis if the government hadn’t intervened decisively.
In a statement, the BJP emphasized that Kangana Ranaut is not authorized to speak on policy matters on behalf of the party and has not been granted permission to do so. The party has instructed her to avoid making such statements in the future.
Earlier, BJP leaders from Haryana and Punjab had also advised the MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi to avoid making inflammatory remarks. “Kangana’s comments on farmers are personal and not part of her official duties. Prime Minister Modi and the BJP are committed to supporting farmers. The Opposition is exploiting this situation, and Kangana’s statements only contribute to that. She should refrain from commenting on sensitive or religious issues,” said Punjab BJP leader Harjit Grewal.
The Congress also weighed in, with leader Randeep Surjewala calling for Kangana to “get well soon.” Surjewala, who is campaigning in poll-bound Haryana—where the farmers’ protest lasted a year—questioned, “Were these just Kangana’s words, or did someone else endorse them? If not, why is the BJP remaining silent on this issue?”
Ms. Ranaut, known for her provocative statements, has been a vocal critic of the farmers’ protest against the now-repealed three farm laws.
In 2020, Ms. Ranaut reportedly misidentified a female farmer from Punjab participating in the protests, mistakenly referring to her as Bilkis Bano—a prominent figure from the anti-Citizenship Amendment Law (CAA) protests in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh. She also made disparaging remarks, suggesting that the woman could be hired for protests for “₹100.”
This controversy was reignited in June this year when Ms. Ranaut was slapped by a woman Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable at the Chandigarh airport while en route to Delhi.
